Artist in Austin, Texas
After a 25 year career in advertising as an art director/photoshop illustrator I retired and started pursuing painting full time. My style is best described as sort of a Pop Art/comic book look in mixed media, acrylic, collage, colored pencil and relies heavily on concept and composition. I’ve tried to combine my fine art experience with my advertising experience to come up with as personal a style as possible. Lately I’ve been using pop culture icons or film noir figures from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s but have also used old clip art in the past sometimes with themes that play off of music. Taking a title of a song or a lyric and use it in or out of context to suit my needs but not necessarily illustrate a song. I try to create work that looks at the world, society and pop culture in a fun, interesting and sometimes satirical way drawing the viewer in where they can question what the painting is about and possibly even create their own narrative as to its meaning.
